Recommendations | ONLY when VZV immune globulin is unavailable. IVIG is a suitable alternative for varicella-susceptible immunocompromised patients when VZV immune globulin is unavailable within 96 hours after exposure |
Dose/Frequency of Administration | Single dose of 0.4 g/kg adjusted body weight, as soon as possible. Ideally the dose should be given within 96 hours after exposure, but administration up to 10 days post-exposure may be helpful. Patients who have received IVIG within the prior 3 weeks are protected. |
