Course Information
The Bloody Easy Lite eLearning program consists of 2 modules – Indications for Blood Transfusion and Transfusion Reactions. The content is based upon the Bloody Easy 5.1 handbook.
Indications for Transfusion
Module 1 Objectives
- Define a “group and screen”.
- Name the type of crossmatch required when an antibody screen is positive.
- List the indications for transfusion of red blood cells (RBC), platelets (PLT), plasma, prothrombin complex concentrates and fibrinogen replacement.
Transfusion Reactions
Module 2 Objectives
- Discuss informed consent for transfusion with patients.
- Recognize the signs and symptoms of an adverse reaction to blood and blood components.
- Summarize measures for the management of transfusion reactions.
Each module contains assessment questions which are to be completed upon review of the content. The passing grade for the assessment is 80% and the assessment can be retaken if the user does not achieve 80%.
The program is available in 2 different formats:
- On the ORBCoN Learning Management System (LMS)
- In SCORM compliant files that can be uploaded to a facility’s LMS
Accreditation
The Bloody Easy Lite modules has been accredited by University of Toronto for College of Family Physicians of Canada Mainpro+ (1 credit/hour) Self-Learning: 2.0 credits and Royal College Maintenance of Certification Section 1: 2.0 hours.
FAQ
How often should facilities complete the Bloody Easy Lite eLearning courses?
It is up to each facility how often they require the physicians to complete the eLearning program, however most sites that currently use the eLearning course have a requirement of completing the modules every 2 years.
Which physicians should complete the Bloody Easy Lite program?
Any physician that orders blood and blood products should complete the eLearning program however some sites require all physicians to complete the modules.
Will I receive a certificate after successful completion of each module?
Yes, after successful completion of each module (reviewing content and achieving 80% on the assessment questions) you will be able to view/download a certificate of completion.
How do I access the Bloody Easy Lite course?
As stated above, there are 2 different options to complete the modules; your facility may be currently using the ORBCoN LMS or may have the BE Lite modules on your facility specific LMS.
Please check with your facility to see if you have access to either the ORBCoN or your site specific LMS.
