Bloody Easy Lite eLearning Course – NOW CME ACCREDITED!
Troy Thompson, ORBCoN Program Manager
WHAT IS IT?
The newly revised Bloody Easy Lite eLearning course (BE Lite) is recommended for physicians and healthcare professionals who prescribe blood and blood products and consists of two educational modules:
- Indications for Transfusion; provides basic knowledge regarding appropriate indications for red blood cell, plasma, platelet and fibrinogen replacement transfusions.
- Transfusion Reactions; provides basic information related to the “informed consent process” including signs and symptoms of adverse reactions.
Each module has a built-in assessment to test the user’s knowledge upon course completion. It is available through the Ontario Regional Blood Coordinating Network (ORBCoN) Learning Management System (LMS) using the Surge Learning platform and is also available in downloadable SCORM compliant files that can be uploaded to a hospital’s own LMS.
The modules have been accredited through Continuing Professional Development (CPD), Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto for the following credits:
- College of Family Physicians of Canada Mainpro+ (1 credit/hour) Self-learning: 2.0 credits.
- Royal College Maintenance of Certification Section 1: 2.0 hours.
WHY DO I NEED THIS?
As transfusion is one of the most common medical procedures performed in hospitals, it is important to ensure appropriate education and competency are kept up-to-date based on current medical evidence.
BE Lite has been developed to help hospitals meet accreditation requirements. In accordance with Accreditation Canada standard 4.3, each hospital MUST have a formal program to maintain ALL team members’ competence.
HOW CAN I USE THIS?
Ontario hospitals are using BE Lite as part of employee training orientation and provider credentialing purposes.
A survey conducted with Ontario hospitals in 2023 regarding the use of BE Lite showed the following results:
Does your site use BE Lite? N= 80
Is BE Lite completion mandatory? N=50
