This Handbook provides practical information on Transfusion Medicine in a concise booklet format. It is designed to enhance knowledge of physicians, nurses, and technologists on the clinical use of blood transfusions and blood alternatives. Minor revision in July 2023 to incorporate the addition of Solvent-Detergent (SD) Plasma to the inventory of frozen plasma components available.

A comprehensive toolkit was developed to provide guidance for Ontario hospitals in the implementation of Ontario’s Recommendations for Massive Hemorrhage Protocol. The toolkit addresses select patient populations and differences in hospital sizes, resources and geographical challenges.
