Highlights\u00a0of\u00a0key projects under each strategic goal are featured below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-4fc3f8e1 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p class=\"has-custom-css wp-container-content-69bc4bdf wp-custom-css-47b3a7cd wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Goal 1: Utilization\u00a0Improvements\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><strong><strong>Strengthening Immune Globulin (IG) Stewardship<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-fe15e9f8\">Ontario\u00a0is moving forward\u00a0to strengthen immune globulin (IG) stewardship through provincial collaboration, clinical engagement, and planning for future system enhancements.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><strong><strong><strong>Improving Access to Provincial Data<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-16cf8f25\">Work also continued to advance a provincial transfusion data strategy, including the development of recommendations to support standardized data collection, reporting, and evidence-based decision-making across the province.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-4fc3f8e1 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><strong><strong>Goal 2: Educational Resources and Events<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-grid wp-container-core-group-is-layout-0fed8f92 wp-block-group-is-layout-grid\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list wp-container-content-60984cfd\">\n<li><strong><strong><strong>Delivering Education to Thousands of Healthcare Professionals<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-446d3aed\">In 2025-26\u00a0FY, a range of educational resources were developed\u00a0or reviewed\u00a0to strengthen transfusion medicine knowledge\u00a0and\u00a0regulatory compliance\u00a0thereby promoting safe\u00a0patient care across Ontario. Enhancements included\u00a0a\u00a0new Health Canada Blood Regulations competency module\u00a0under the Tech Assess, development\u00a0of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/toolkits\/transporting-blood-internally\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">transporting blood internally\u00a0training resources<\/a>, and\u00a0the\u00a0creation of an eLearning module to support\u00a0nursing and laboratory staff\u00a0with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/bloody-easy-e-tools-publications\/reconstitution-outside-tml\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reconstitution of Prothrombin Complex Concentrate (PCC) and Fibrinogen Concentrate (FC)<\/a>. In addition,\u00a0ORBCoN\u00a0has partnered with BORN\u00a0to help\u00a0support provincial\u00a0rollout of the\u00a0fetal\u00a0RHD\u00a0screening and\u00a0alloimmunized fetal blood group genotype testing.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"581\" height=\"306\" src=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14803\" srcset=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-3.png 581w, https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-3-300x158.png 300w, https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-3-150x79.png 150w, https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-3-110x58.png 110w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 581px) 100vw, 581px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-grid wp-container-core-group-is-layout-0fed8f92 wp-block-group-is-layout-grid\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list wp-container-content-60984cfd\">\n<li><strong><strong><strong>ORBCoN Events in Ontario<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-f315b4ef\">Events that were held in 2025-26\u00a0FY\u00a0included the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/orbcon-resources\/presentation-library\/cbs-and-orbcon-annual-transfusion-medicine-webconference-symposium\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Annual Transfusion Medicine Education Symposium Web Conference<\/a>, Provincial Transfusion\u00a0Medicine\u00a0Symposium,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/orbcon-resources\/presentation-library\/ghest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Golden Horseshoe Education supporting Transfusionists (GHEST)<\/a>, three (3)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/orbcon-resources\/presentation-library\/transfusionists-talk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transfusionists Talks webinars<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/orbcon-resources\/presentation-library\/transfusion-medicine-boot-camp-for-nurses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transfusion Boot Camp for\u00a0Nurses<\/a>. Nine (9) monthly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/orbcon-resources\/presentation-library\/university-of-toronto-transfusion-medicine-rounds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transfusion Medicine Rounds<\/a>\u00a0were\u00a0facilitated\u00a0by\u00a0ORBCoN\u00a0in collaboration with the University of Toronto for the academic year (September-June).\u00a0Combined, these\u00a0events\u00a0attracted\u00a0over 3,000 participants\u00a0<em>(see figure 1).<\/em>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img Improvements<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-4fc3f8e1 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><strong><strong>Enhancing Provincial Redistribution<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-40f07c08\">Red cell\u00a0(RBC)\u00a0outdate\u00a0percentages\u00a0remain\u00a0very low\u00a0<em>(see figure\u00a02<\/em>), and redistribution of near-to-expiry\u00a0components and products\u00a0increased by\u00a0approximately\u00a033%\u00a0compared to the previous\u00a0year\u00a0provincially.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img wp-custom-css-28810cd3\">\n<li class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-54a7c258\">Low RBC outdates are indicative of good inventory\u00a0management stewardship, and redistribution efforts\u00a0demonstrate\u00a0a proactive approach to\u00a0the prevention of\u00a0component\u00a0and product expiry.\u00a0ORBCoN\u00a0continued\u00a0to promote effective\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/toolkits\/inventory-management\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">inventory management<\/a>\u00a0processes including the redistribution of blood components and products where applicable.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Guidance on\u00a0Blood Shortages in Ontario<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-f3f5f784\">The current\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/toolkits\/emergency-blood-management\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">contingency plan for shortages of labile blood components<\/a>\u00a0outlines the provincial response to a blood shortage and, together with the toolkit, provides hospitals with guidance on\u00a0managing\u00a0blood shortages in Ontario.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-a44dca95\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-4fc3f8e1 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><strong><strong>Goal 4: Communication<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><strong><strong>Growing Stakeholder Engagement<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-c5ae2fbe\">ORBCoN\u00a0broadened\u00a0its\u00a0outreach and engagement\u00a0through newsletters, site visits, social media, and website\u00a0enhancements.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/newsletter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The ORBCoN Report<\/a>\u00a0newsletter grew to more than 1,000 subscribers,\u00a0keeping\u00a0stakeholders informed of important developments in transfusion medicine.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-4fc3f8e1 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list has-custom-css wp-container-content-da09a7bf wp-custom-css-e494568d\">\n<li><strong><strong><strong><strong>Expanding Digital Reach<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transfusion Ontario<\/a>\u00a0website attracted approximately 84,000 users in 2025, a 16.7% increase over the previous year.\u00a0ORBCoN\u00a0also continued to support thousands of learners through its eLearning platforms and online educational tools.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-container-content-5dc44c30\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"262\" height=\"182\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><strong><strong><strong>Launching the Massive Hemorrhage Quality Metrics Portal<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-3b2de7b8\">A major milestone this year was the provincial launch of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/massive-hemorrhage-protocol\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Massive Hemorrhage Protocol (MHP)<\/a>\u00a0Quality Metrics Portal.
