Highlights&nbsp;of&nbsp;key projects under each strategic goal are featured below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-4fc3f8e1 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Goal 1: Utilization&nbsp;Improvements&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><strong><strong>Strengthening Immune Globulin (IG) Stewardship<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-f2495f02\">Ontario&nbsp;is moving forward&nbsp;to strengthen immune globulin (IG) stewardship through provincial collaboration, clinical engagement, and planning for future system enhancements.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><strong><strong><strong>Improving Access to Provincial Data<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-16cf8f25\">Work also continued to advance a provincial transfusion data strategy, including the development of recommendations to support standardized data collection, reporting, and evidence-based decision-making across the province.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-4fc3f8e1 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong><strong>Goal 2: Educational Resources and Events<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-grid wp-container-core-group-is-layout-0fed8f92 wp-block-group-is-layout-grid\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list wp-container-content-60984cfd\">\n<li><strong><strong><strong>Delivering Education to Thousands of Healthcare Professionals<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-5c77143d\">In 2025-26&nbsp;FY, a range of educational resources were developed&nbsp;or reviewed&nbsp;to strengthen transfusion medicine knowledge&nbsp;and&nbsp;regulatory compliance&nbsp;thereby promoting safe&nbsp;patient care across Ontario. Enhancements included&nbsp;a&nbsp;new Health Canada Blood Regulations competency module&nbsp;under the Tech Assess, development&nbsp;of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/toolkits\/transporting-blood-internally\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">transporting blood internally&nbsp;training resources<\/a>, and&nbsp;the&nbsp;creation of an eLearning module to support&nbsp;nursing and laboratory staff&nbsp;with the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/bloody-easy-e-tools-publications\/reconstitution-outside-tml\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reconstitution of Prothrombin Complex Concentrate (PCC) and Fibrinogen Concentrate (FC)<\/a>. In addition,&nbsp;ORBCoN&nbsp;has partnered with BORN&nbsp;to help&nbsp;support provincial&nbsp;rollout of the&nbsp;fetal&nbsp;RHD&nbsp;screening and&nbsp;alloimmunized fetal blood group genotype testing.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"581\" height=\"306\" src=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14803\" srcset=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-3.png 581w, https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-3-300x158.png 300w, https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-3-150x79.png 150w, https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/image-3-110x58.png 110w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 581px) 100vw, 581px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-grid wp-container-core-group-is-layout-0fed8f92 wp-block-group-is-layout-grid\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list wp-container-content-60984cfd\">\n<li><strong><strong><strong>ORBCoN Events in Ontario<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-ce18d58c\">Events that were held in 2025-26&nbsp;FY&nbsp;included the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/orbcon-resources\/presentation-library\/cbs-and-orbcon-annual-transfusion-medicine-webconference-symposium\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Annual Transfusion Medicine Education Symposium Web Conference<\/a>, Provincial Transfusion&nbsp;Medicine&nbsp;Symposium,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/orbcon-resources\/presentation-library\/ghest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Golden Horseshoe Education supporting Transfusionists (GHEST)<\/a>, three (3)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/orbcon-resources\/presentation-library\/transfusionists-talk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transfusionists Talks webinars<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/orbcon-resources\/presentation-library\/transfusion-medicine-boot-camp-for-nurses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transfusion Boot Camp for&nbsp;Nurses<\/a>. Nine (9) monthly&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/orbcon-resources\/presentation-library\/university-of-toronto-transfusion-medicine-rounds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transfusion Medicine Rounds<\/a>&nbsp;were&nbsp;facilitated&nbsp;by&nbsp;ORBCoN&nbsp;in collaboration with the University of Toronto for the academic year (September-June).&nbsp;Combined, these&nbsp;events&nbsp;attracted&nbsp;over 3,000 participants&nbsp;<em>(see figure 1).<\/em>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img Improvements<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-4fc3f8e1 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><strong><strong>Enhancing Provincial Redistribution<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-bc61e901\">Red cell&nbsp;(RBC)&nbsp;outdate&nbsp;percentages&nbsp;remain&nbsp;very low&nbsp;<em>(see figure&nbsp;2<\/em>), and redistribution of near-to-expiry&nbsp;components and products&nbsp;increased by&nbsp;approximately&nbsp;33%&nbsp;compared to the previous&nbsp;year&nbsp;provincially.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img wp-custom-css-1518c8b3\">\n<li class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-a0a1bb02\">Low RBC outdates are indicative of good inventory&nbsp;management stewardship, and redistribution efforts&nbsp;demonstrate&nbsp;a proactive approach to&nbsp;the prevention of&nbsp;component&nbsp;and product expiry.&nbsp;ORBCoN&nbsp;continued&nbsp;to promote effective&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/toolkits\/inventory-management\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">inventory management<\/a>&nbsp;processes including the redistribution of blood components and products where applicable.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Guidance on&nbsp;Blood Shortages in Ontario<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-d837f084\">The current&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/toolkits\/emergency-blood-management\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">contingency plan for shortages of labile blood components<\/a>&nbsp;outlines the provincial response to a blood shortage and, together with the toolkit, provides hospitals with guidance on&nbsp;managing&nbsp;blood shortages in Ontario.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-ee22d281\">&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-4fc3f8e1 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong><strong>Goal 4: Communication<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><strong><strong>Growing Stakeholder Engagement<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-78ffcc35\">ORBCoN&nbsp;broadened&nbsp;its&nbsp;outreach and engagement&nbsp;through newsletters, site visits, social media, and website&nbsp;enhancements.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/newsletter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The ORBCoN Report<\/a>&nbsp;newsletter grew to more than 1,000 subscribers,&nbsp;keeping&nbsp;stakeholders informed of important developments in transfusion medicine.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-4fc3f8e1 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list has-custom-css wp-container-content-da09a7bf wp-custom-css-d64bd789\">\n<li><strong><strong><strong><strong>Expanding Digital Reach<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transfusion Ontario<\/a>&nbsp;website attracted approximately 84,000 users in 2025, a 16.7% increase over the previous year.&nbsp;ORBCoN&nbsp;also continued to support thousands of learners through its eLearning platforms and online educational tools.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-container-content-5dc44c30\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"262\" height=\"182\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><strong><strong><strong>Launching the Massive Hemorrhage Quality Metrics Portal<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-custom-css wp-custom-css-32c4114b\">A major milestone this year was the provincial launch of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/massive-hemorrhage-protocol\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Massive Hemorrhage Protocol (MHP)<\/a>&nbsp;Quality Metrics Portal.
