Written by subject-matter experts from across Canada, our transfusion medicine resources support clinical practice and help health-care professionals stay current in an ever-changing field.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These resources have the biggest impact when&nbsp;they\u2019re&nbsp;read and shared! We invite you to explore and share our recent publications:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Clinical Guide to Transfusion:&nbsp;<\/strong>A practical summary of current transfusion medicine for healthcare professionals in Canada.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/profedu.blood.ca\/en\/transfusion\/clinical-guide\/platelet-transfusion-alloimmunization-and-management-platelet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chapter 18 &#8211; Platelet transfusion, alloimmunization and management of platelet refractoriness<\/a>: This chapter describes the process of collecting,&nbsp;manufacturing&nbsp;and storing platelets for transfusion, summarizes clinical practice recommendations for platelet transfusions, and provides information on adverse reactions and platelet refractoriness.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Publications:&nbsp;<\/strong>Transfusion&nbsp;medicine resources to support clinical practice and help healthcare professionals stay up to date.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/profedu.blood.ca\/en\/transfusion\/publications\/surveillance-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2024 Surveillance Report<\/a>. We are pleased to present this\u202fannual report describing transmissible blood-borne infection surveillance. High quality and\u00a0timely\u00a0surveillance\u00a0is\u00a0central to the safety of the blood supply. This includes monitoring of transmissible disease markers that the blood is tested for (including bacteria) and investigation of any reports of\u00a0possible transfusion\u00a0transmission, as well as a horizon scan for any new pathogens that may pose a risk.\u202f\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/profedu.blood.ca\/en\/transfusion\/publications\/faq-parvovirus-b19-virus-canadian-blood-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FAQ: Parvovirus B19 Virus at Canadian Blood Services<\/a><strong>:\u00a0<\/strong>Plasma fractionators report plasma nucleic\u00a0acid test\u00a0(NAT) results for parvovirus B19 to Canadian Blood Services within a\u00a0timeframe\u00a0that may incur the recall of in-date products. This new publication answers\u00a0common questions\u00a0regarding\u00a0management steps in these scenarios. It is now available in English and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/profedu.blood.ca\/fr\/transfusion\/publications\/faq-le-parvovirus-b19-la-societe-canadienne-du-sang\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">French<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/profedu.blood.ca\/en\/transfusion\/publications\/faq-hepatitis-virus-hav-canadian-blood-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FAQ: Hepatitis A Virus (HAV) at Canadian Blood Services<\/a>: Plasma fractionators report plasma nucleic\u00a0acid test\u00a0(NAT) results for HAV to Canadian Blood Services within a\u00a0time frame\u00a0that may incur the recall of in-date products. This new publication answers\u00a0common questions\u00a0regarding\u00a0management steps in these scenarios. It is now available in English and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/profedu.blood.ca\/fr\/transfusion\/publications\/faq-le-virus-de-lhepatite-vha-la-societe-canadienne-du-sang\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">French<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/profedu.blood.ca\/en\/transfusion\/best-practices\/serological-best-practices\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Serological best practices<\/a>: These best practices support serological and immunohematology investigations and the\u00a0selection\u00a0of donor units for transfusion through the summary of the clinical significance of blood group alloantibodies.\u00a0This resource has been developed to equip hospitals and health-care providers with information to support decision-making around patient care and the\u00a0utilization\u00a0of blood components. It is now available in English and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/profedu.blood.ca\/fr\/transfusion\/guide-clinique\/bien-etre-des-donneurs-vue-densemble-et-perspectives\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">French<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<br>In November 2025, Canadian Blood Services\u2019 innovation and portfolio management (I&amp;PM) team published its annual impact report&nbsp;showcasing&nbsp;progress in research and education initiatives for the Canadian blood system.
