{"id":12618,"date":"2025-01-27T14:34:10","date_gmt":"2025-01-27T19:34:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/?p=12618"},"modified":"2025-01-27T15:24:30","modified_gmt":"2025-01-27T20:24:30","slug":"immune-thrombocytopenia-adult-igum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/immune-thrombocytopenia-adult-igum\/","title":{"rendered":"Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) Adult"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-036f609a813ebf7c494f7208c56cbbdc\" style=\"color:#477d6c\"><strong>Recommended Indications in which IG can be used<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-3cf949f598af1e236714fc60931dab61\" style=\"background-color:#a5cbbf\"><strong>Order Number: H8-ITPA<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-regular\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>Recommendations<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Acute ITP with or at risk for severe bleeding:<\/strong> IVIG is recommended as part of multimodality therapy for patients with ITP, severe thrombocytopenia (platelets less than 30 x 10<sup>9<\/sup>\/L) and severe bleeding. <br><br><strong>IVIG may be considered in the following situations: <\/strong><br><ul><li>ITP in pregnancy: when platelets are less than 30 x 10<sup>9<\/sup>\/L, or in preparation for delivery. <\/li><li>Planned surgery: safe platelet threshold will vary with the nature of the surgery. <\/li><li>Treatment of ITP in patients with other concurrent risk factors for bleeding (e.g., concurrent anticoagulant therapy).<\/li><\/ul><strong>Chronic ITP: <\/strong>IVIG may be considered as a possible adjunctive therapy as a steroid-sparing measure.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Dose\/Frequency of Administration<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Acute: <\/strong>1 g\/kg as a single dose. Repeat if platelet count does not respond (i.e., still less than 30 x 10<sup>9<\/sup>\/L). <br><br><strong>Chronic:<\/strong> In consultation with a hematologist, as adjunctive therapy or where other therapies have failed or are not appropriate.
