{"id":11724,"date":"2023-09-15T10:29:00","date_gmt":"2023-09-15T14:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/?p=11724"},"modified":"2024-07-25T09:55:53","modified_gmt":"2024-07-25T13:55:53","slug":"orbcon-2022-23-year-overview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/orbcon-2022-23-year-overview\/","title":{"rendered":"ORBCoN 2022-23 Year Overview\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Tracy Cameron, MLT, Regional Manager ORBCoN NE<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ontario Regional Blood Coordinating Network (ORBCoN) is a program funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health (MOH) to support the provincial blood utilization strategy using the following five strategic goals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Utilization of blood components and products<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&nbsp;Educational Resources&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inventory Management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Communication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quality &amp; Safety<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>ORBCoN, as a program, strives to continually improve the management and utilization of blood components and products in the province of Ontario to ensure that transfusion related patient care is safe, effective, and provincial resources are utilized appropriately and efficiently. Deliverables have been categorized as projects, tasks, programs, events and other as outlined in figure 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ORBCoN has made significant progress in implementing the 2020 recommendations of the Office of the Auditor General of Ontario (OAGO) on Immune Globulin Utilization. One of these accomplishments is piloting an online MOH IG Request form to collect data on IG utilization-related variables.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>ORBCoN is actively collaborating with data strategy partners through its participation in the provincial data strategy sub-committee to address access to data for measuring key indicators in Transfusion Medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, ORBCoN successfully organized six educational events, consisting of two live events and four online events. The <a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/bloody-easy-e-tools-publications\/tech-assess\/\">tech assessment eLearning<\/a> program was redeveloped and launched. <a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/BloodyEasy5.1_English_Final_2023_Interactive-June-28.pdf\">Bloody Easy 5 handbook<\/a> was published, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/patients\/\">patient pamphlet<\/a> was reviewed, updated and published. The <a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/blood-utilization-audits\/audits-supporting-documentation\/bedside-audit-2\/\">Bedside audit<\/a> tool was rebuilt and piloted in preparation for the provincial audit. ORBCoN\u2019s clinical coordinators began providing presentations <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image
