The increase in Ig demand, coupled with the associated rising costs and global shortages of this limited resource, has become a critical area of focus for the health system.\r\n        <\/div>\r\n<br>\r\n        <p>\r\n          In 2020, the Office of the Auditor General of Ontario (OAGO) performed an audit of Ontario\u2019s blood management system. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.auditor.on.ca\/en\/content\/annualreports\/arreports\/en20\/20VFM_02bloodmgmt.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">report made several high-level recommendations<\/a> for the Ontario Ministry of Health to address gaps in Ig product management, including:\r\n        <\/p>\r\n        <ul>\r\n          <li>Strengthen Ig utilization monitoring and guidelines adherence<\/li>\r\n          <li>Advance Canada\u2019s plasma self-sufficiency strategy<\/li>\r\n          <li>Promote evidence-based alternatives to blood products<\/li>\r\n          <li>\r\n            Improve preparedness and equitable allocation during Ig shortages\r\n          <\/li>\r\n        <\/ul>\r\n        <p>Recommendation three, bullet one, specifically stated:<\/p>\r\n      <\/div>\r\n\r\n      <!-- Right Column (30%) -->\r\n      <div style=\"flex:3; min-width:250px; margin-left:30px;\">\r\n        <div style=\"padding:15px; border-radius:5px; margin:auto;\" >\r\n          <a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/en\/category\/ivig-scig\/ordering-ig-in-ontario\/\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"color:#fff; background-color:#083459; padding:1rem; font-size:0.875rem; line-height:1.5; text-decoration:none; display:block; text-align:center;\" onmouseover=\"this.style.fontWeight='bold'; this.style.opacity='0.9';\" onmouseout=\"this.style.fontWeight='normal'; this.style.opacity='1';\">View Current Document Here<\/a>\r\n        <\/div>\r\n      <\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n<div style=\"margin: 2rem\">\r\n<hr style=\"width:15%;text-align:left;margin-left:0;border: none; border-top: 5px solid #00467D;\" \/>\r\n    <h4>OAGO Recommendation 3<\/h4>\r\n    <p style=\"font-weight:bold; font-style:italic\">\r\nTo better manage the demand and supply of immunoglobulins so that they are available for Ontarians who need them most and to avoid costs of wasted product, we recommend that the MOH, in consultation with Ontario Health: \r\n<br>\r\n- Collect more complete data from hospitals on how immunoglobulins are being used and identify emerging conditions that may warrant inclusion in provincial utilization guidelines.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n    <br \/>\r\n\r\n    <div>\r\nIn Ontario, Ig requests are currently completed by the prescriber and sent to Transfusion Medicine Laboratories (TMLs) on three different paper requisitions (MOH IG Request Forms-  <a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Ontario-MOHLTC-IG-Request-Form-Neurology-3.0-January-2018-fillable.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Neurology<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Ontario-MOHLTC-IG-Request-Form-non-Neurology-v5.0-January-2018-fillable.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Non-Neurology<\/a> and  <a href=\"https:\/\/transfusionontario.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/SCIG-Product-request-form_-Version-4-March-2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">SCIG<\/a>). These paper forms do not leave the hospital TMLs to which they were submitted.
